Wellness and You

Mental wellness is so much a part of great health. The mind and the body work together to create a healthy mind, body and soul. One can also create or develop an unhealthy mind, body and soul.

I am so thrilled and in gratitude to say that I have recovered from being so very unwell for 10 weeks!

I have learned a few things and also reminded of a few things, some of which I want to share with you.

I realized that health really is wealth! Without my health, I felt like I was just existing.

While I was unwell, it gave me many hours to think. I did go to the "oh woe is me" stage at times! I realized that I can choose to be in control of my thoughts. I can create the thoughts I want and can choose to stay stuck and with a negative emotion - the emotion and attitude of despair, of anger, of life sucks and so on.
I could also choose to be in an attitude of gratitude! I was grateful for things I did have! I was grateful for so much!

I was grateful that I had a loving family and friends who loved me and wanted to lend a helping hand.

I was grateful for my faith! I relied on my faith and in turn prayer to help me to focus on what was good and going well. I was grateful for all of the people who were praying! I was grateful that even though I didn't have answers and doctors were stumped - I had my faith that the The Great Physician had ahold of me!

I was grateful that I had time to rest.

I was grateful that my team and my business still went on without me.

When life throws you a curve ball - how do you react?
Isn't it freeing to know that we can choose to focus on the positive things and what we are grateful for instead of focusing on what isn't working? Isn't it freeing to know that we can decide how we react to a situation?
What are you thinking, doing, focusing on to create wellbeing of your mind, body and soul?

Awareness is so key to change!

I have been unwell and unaware of what the root cause was for about 6 months or more.
When it comes to health, it is important to be aware of what is going on and what can make a difference in feeling better.
I have been suffering from low blood pressure. I didn't realize how much it could affect me physically!
I finally realized my possible issue when I located the blood pressure machine and took my blood pressure reading.
Without going into a lot of detail the answer for me was to eliminate one medication and add another.
I wasn't aware that my blood pressure was as low as it was. I wasn't aware of all of the symptoms that I could have! I wasn't aware that one pill could make me feel so bad and one pill could make such a huge difference!

My few words of wisdom for some would be to be proactive with your health, Do what you can to become a better, healthier version of yourself. Be your own advocate. If you are not well, get to the root cause. See your doctor if you have to.
We all deserve to feel better - to be healthier!
What can you do to become a better version of yourself?

Goals

Decide what it is that you want to achieve. This is your goal so don't compare it to others. Make your goals intentional. Create the plan! Be aware of what may take you off course. Schedule the plan! Course correct if you have to! Tell someone about your goal. If you don't let people know - no one knows whether you have succeeded or failed.

My husband and I decided that our fitness goal was to walk 50 km this month. We have surpassed that goal and have decided to make a new goal. Our walking goal for the month is now 100 km for the month of August. It may be a stretch but we are up for the challenge!

What do you want to achieve when it comes to your health and wellbeing?
Decide on the goal, make the plan and tell someone!

Our wellbeing takes in so many different things.

When it comes to health, it's important to decide that you want to be healthier.

It's important to be aware of how to be healthier. However, I believe it is more important to know why you want to be healthier. What is your vision for yourself?

For me - it's about being able to move well, feel well, look well and be well and to continue to live a great quality of life. I need to then be aware of what will enable me to stay healthy and well.
I want to be healthy so that I can travel where and when I want and enjoy my family to the fullest.
I want to be able to get down on the floor and play with my grand kids. I want to be able to move well enough so that I can hike in Sedona and explore other trails throughout the world.
I want to have enough energy so that I can have a full day of fun.

What do you want for your wellbeing? What does your life look like and what is your vision? What do you want to feel like?
I choose to work on my wellbeing, consistently on a daily basis. Each little step forward creates a better version of what I was yesterday.
You are worth the work and the effort into becoming a better version of yourself! Why not begin today? Take that first step! Let's start to dream again!

Total Time
30 mins
Servings: 2 Servings
Ingredients
Olive Oil Spray
2 (6-ounce) fresh wild cod fillets, about 1-inch thick, skin off
20 spears fresh asparagus, stalks trimmed
1/8 tsp each salt and black pepper
1/2 cup chopped ripe mango
1/2 cup chopped cucumber
8 cherry tomatoes, halved
1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1 tbsp lime juice
2 tsp minced jalapeno
1 tsp minced mint or parsley
1 cup cooked farro
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil and lightly spray with olive oil spray.
Place cod and asparagus on the prepared sheet pan, lightly mist with olive oil spray, and season with the salt and pepper.
Bake for 20 minutes, or until cod is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, toss together mango, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, olive oil, lime juice, jalapeno, and mint to create a mango salsa.
Serve the baked cod and asparagus alongside the mango salsa with a side of cooked farro.
Notes
Frozen mango can be used in place of fresh—just thaw prior to using. Peaches are also a good alternative.
