Nature's Answer To Stress
( Article thanks to Isagenix Health)
Stress is an inevitable part of life in today's modern world. Whether it's work, finances, or relationships, stress can make us feel overworked and overloaded. More Americans than ever are reporting feeling chronically high levels of stress according to a 2018 survey by the American Psychological Association (1).
Confronting this constant stress can be mentally exhausting, but research reveals chronic stress can affect your physical health as well. Chronic stress has been associated with numerous negative outcomes that affect your brain, nervous system, sleep patterns, cardiovascular health, and weight (2).
Popular stress management methods such as regular exercise, hobbies, meditation, and yoga are useful to mitigate daily stressors. Research shows most Americans instead resort to unhealthy habits when times are tough (1). Whether it's alcohol, stimulants, or simply overeating, many Americans could benefit from finding a better solution to help manage stress.
Stress and Adaptogens
Originating from the Greek word adapto," the term adaptogen is applied to plants that produce special substances allowing them to survive under significant conditions of environmental stress. Former Soviet Union research scientists Nicolai Lazarev and Israel Brekhman were the first to systematically study adaptogens. Their research found that adaptogens work by normalizing the body's functions under stress and that daily consumption may improve mental and physical performances while reducing fatigue (3, 4).
Find more information about adaptogens here.
Because of the health benefits of adaptogenic herbs, Isagenix created Ionix Supreme, a daily tonic designed to provide stress-modulating effects on the body. Ionix Supreme incorporates a select blend of well-studied adaptogens and other unique botanicals, each chosen specifically for their role in supporting physical and mental performance, as well as offering a solution to aid in stress management.
Hear Jim Coover's personal account of his meeting with Dr. Brekhman here.
Meet the Adaptogens in Ionix Supreme
Though adaptogens help the body combat the effects of stress, they each have their own mechanism of action to benefit overall health.
Here's a deeper look at the adaptogens found in Ionix Supreme:
Wolfberry (Lycium barbarum): A red-orange berry of the Solanaceae nightshade family that ancient (what?) regarded as nourishing to the liver, kidneys, and eyes. Modern studies affirm its use in modulating stress and supporting faster recovery post-exercise (5-7).
Eleuthero root (Eleutherococcus senticosus): A small, woody shrub native to Northeastern Asia used in traditional Chinese medicine as a natural remedy for reducing fatigue. Modern use of the root was popularized after the former Soviet Union popularized its use for its space and sport programs to support physical endurance (8, 9).
Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea): A plant that grows in the coldest regions of the world, including Northern Asia. Rhodiola has been traditionally used in Russia and Scandinavian countries to strengthen the body's resistance to stress and improve energy levels (10).
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera): Used in Indian Ayurevedic medicine for centuries and native to regions of India, Africa, and the Middle East. In recent studies, ashwagandha has demonstrated potent antioxidant effects (11, 12). Studies have also shown it to support healthy brain and immune function (13, 14).
Bacopa (Bacopa monniera): A plant popular in traditional Indian medicine practices for the enhancement of memory and to promote longevity. Preclinical studies have shown it to have antioxidant and adaptogenic effects on the central nervous system (15-17).
Schizandra (Schisandra chinensis): This berry grows as part of a woody vine native to the forests of Northern China and Eastern Russia and has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine. In human studies, schizandra has been reported to increase work accuracy and decrease feelings of fatigue and exhaustion (18).

Four Weight Loss Mistakes
The following tips are thanks to Isagenix Health.
You've been eating healthy and working out, but you're just not getting the results you want.
Weight loss mistakes might be getting in the way of your success. Awareness of what to look for are key.
1. Forbidding Your Favorite Foods
Research suggests that eliminating favorite foods during weight loss can make food cravings harder to resist and may lead to unintended overeating (1). Other research has found that when commonly craved foods like sugar are restricted, it makes eating them significantly more rewarding than eating these foods under other circumstances (2).
The solution: Make sensible, portion-controlled treats a regular part of your weight loss plan.
2. Skimping on Sleep
Many of us fail to get the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep each night, but mounting evidence shows that inadequate sleep can make it difficult to reach or maintain a healthy weight (3). Too little sleep has been shown to cause changes in hormone balance, metabolism, and appetite regulation that tend to promote weight gain (4, 5).
The solution: Make sleep a priority. Aim for the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep every night.
3. Getting Stuck in an Exercise Rut
Whether it's cardio or weights, if you tend to stick to one type of workout, you are likely not getting the most out of the time you spend at the gym. For the greatest weight loss benefit, research suggests that you need a mix of both strength training and cardiovascular conditioning.
Study participants who did both types of exercise lost significantly more weight on average than those who focused on either type alone.
The solution: Mix in strength training and cardiovascular conditioning during your workout routine.
4. Missing Out on Protein When You Need It Most
Protein is among the most important nutrients for helping to support your weight loss success, but it can be a challenge to get the extra protein you need while controlling calories.
Higher amounts of dietary protein help manage appetite during weight loss and can help support greater weight loss overall Getting more protein helps offset the muscle loss that usually accompanies weight loss, which is important for helping you maintain your results,
The solution: Include plenty of high-quality protein in your weight loss plan. Aim to get 20-40 grams of protein at each meal or snack four to six times per day. You might need a little more or less protein each day depending on your goals, body size, and other factors like physical activity.

Exercise is part of a healthy lifestyle.
Are you feeling unmotivated now that you can't go to the gym? Did you know there are many online programs to take part in?
We are providing "houseparty" workouts three days a week. To find out more, send me a message.
There are a number of things to be aware of:
1/ Hydration is key - drink more water. Hydrate before, during and after your exercise.
2/ Work out on a consistent basis. The stopping and starting can give you continual discomfort.
3/ Gradually increase your workout duration and intensity.
4/ Listen to your body. Perhaps you may just want to spend your time stretching when in discomfort.
5/ Stretching is so important! Don't forget it!
6/ If you have a foam roller, a tennis ball or even a rolling pin, - those can help with massaging the muscles.
7/ Fueling your body with high quality nutrition along with replacing electrolytes can help with avoiding lactic acid build up. https://bit.ly/3eBRD9r
8/ Be proud of yourself and your commitment to get in better shape.

Following are some health tips that may help you in this time of uncertainty.
Now is a great time to invest in yourself - in your health!
1/ Get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. If you are having trouble with this- I have some solutions so please reach out. https://bit.ly/34H8inh
2/ Eat nutritiously and limit unhealthy eating to 20% - 80% eat clean and nutritious. 20% - have your pizza, desserts....
Our shakes provide a powerhouse of nutrition that will add antioxidants and boost your immune system. We have immune boosters. https://bit.ly/3bhiXrg
3/ If and when consuming alcohol, be aware of consumption as it can add many calories to your daily intake. Alcohol is a toxin. When stressed - this can add to inflammation in the body. I have noticed on the news that alcohol sales have gone up. Those working from home may choose to have a mid afternoon cocktail. Those calories add up. Set parameters and stick to your "work schedule" and work etiquette.
4/ Exercise - it's good for mental and physical health. If you are interested in joining us- we have added our virtual workout in "House party".
5/ Be in gratitude daily, each morning and each evening. We do have small blessings in this difficult and uncertain time.
6/ Hydration is so key! Drink your water. Take your ideal weight and divide in half. That is how many ounces of water one should consume. Change it up and have a warm drink with lemon first thing in the morning. If you are feeling very dehydrated, our electrolyte drink is great to add to water! Add lemon and lime, or mint to your water. Put a drop of defense shield in your water.
Drink ionix supreme and cleanse before bed so that your body can detoxify.
7/ Minimize stress. I realize many of us are stressed for so many reasons. Now is a great time to focus on the 6 key points from above. Our ionix supreme is both a mental and physical destressor. https://bit.ly/2XEnmk6
We have essential oils such as lavender, peppermint, lemon, frankincense, tea tree oil and more.
8/ Get outside, even if just in your back yard and get some fresh air.
Hope this gives some ideas on keeping well!
yours in health,
Sue
