May Court Thrift Shop Consignment Policy
General Policy (Revised February 2018)
Consignment appointments are limited to 1 (one) appointment per household every 3 weeks.
Consignment articles are received by appointment only on:
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 9:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and
- Saturdays from 9:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (No Saturday appointments taken during July & August)
Customers are to bring their consignment articles in only on their scheduled appointment day and time. To ensure a better price for you, clothing must be:
- On hangers
- Clean
- Pressed
- In style
- In good condition
May Court reserves the right to refuse or discard articles that do not meet our consignment quality guidelines (e.g. soiled, damaged, out-of-date).
Pricing of consignment items is at the discretion of the Thrift Shop Committee.
- Items unsold after 3 weeks are marked down by 40%.
- Items unsold after 5 weeks become a donation to the Thrift Shop.
- Clients receive 50% of the selling price until the article becomes a donation to the Thrift Shop.
- It is the client’s responsibility to pick up any money owing to him/her.
Articles We Accept for Consignment
We accept in-season articles for consignment based on the following timetable:
- Spring articles: After February 28
- Summer articles: After April 30
- Fall articles: After August 31
- Winter articles: After September 30
- Hallowe’en articles: After September 30
- Christmas articles: After October 31
Generally, we accept:
- Up to 10 articles of children’s clothes (size 7 and up) and adult clothing on hangers
- Up to 12 items of baby/children’s clothes (to size 6X) on hangers
- 1 box or bag of household goods, including small household articles, small electrical appliances and lamps (in good working order)
- draperies, linens & miscellaneous like articles
- adult/children’s footwear in like new condition
- jewellery and accessories (scarves, belts, ties, hats, etc.)
Estates can be brought in by special arrangement, either as a consignment or a donation.
Adult paperbacks are taken as donation only.
Articles We Do Not Accept (even as a donation)
- Wedding dresses
- Undergarments, panties, bras, slips, bathing suits
- Business advertising/logo clothing: e.g. Brockville Country Club, Cogeco, Pizza Hut, etc.
- Adult hardcover books or children’s books
- Single cups, mugs or glasses, with the exception of English bone china cups & saucers, theme mugs.
- Stained, damaged or discoloured cookware
- Sharp knives, with the exception of cutlery and dinnerware sets.
- Computers, printers, TVs, VCRs, record players, speakers, electronics
- Floor lamps, large table lamps, ceiling fixtures, large houshold furnishings
- Microwave ovens, broken or damaged electrical items
- Baby equipment such as car seats, strollers
- Suitcases, overnight bags
- Skis, including cross-country skis, or ski boots
- Stuffed toys
Donations
DONATIONS are gratefully accepted every day during business hours & Saturdays until 1:00 p.m only.
